Each tax is rounded to the paisa. When GST is taken out, the taxable value is chosen so that it and the tax add up exactly to the amount paid. Since 22.09.2025 most goods and services are at 5% or 18%, and a few at 40%; 12% and 28% are here for older invoices and items still at those rates. Check the rate for your goods or service, and any cess, on the GST portal or with your accountant.

Questions

When is it CGST + SGST and when IGST?

A sale within one state has CGST and SGST, each at half the rate. A sale from one state to another has IGST at the full rate. In a Union Territory without a legislature, UTGST takes the place of SGST.

How is GST taken out of an amount?

Taxable value = amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). The rest is GST. For 18%, ₹1,180 is ₹1,000 plus ₹180 GST.

Is what I type sent anywhere?
